MY FIRST EXPERIENCE IN COLLEGE
I cleared EAMCET, got my seat at Vaagdevi Engineering College, and on June 5th — I actually walked in as a college student. I even bought new clothes for it. That's how seriously I was taking that day.
And honestly? It was worth it.
The Morning I Walked In
Me and my friend reached the gate together. There were welcome banners put up right at the entrance that small thing actually made us feel good. Inside, signboards were placed specifically for freshers so we didn't get lost wandering around. We followed them and ended up in the seminar hall.
We were slightly late. The hall was already packed — way more people than I expected. One after another, lecturers introduced themselves, told us what subject they'd be teaching, and gave us a feel for what the next four years would look like. It was a lot to take in, but it didn't feel overwhelming. It felt exciting.
Some seniors got up and explained the student bodies IEEE, NCC, NSS and other branches you could be part of. That was the first time I realised college is a lot more than just attending classes.
The Haritha Haram Moment
Then something unexpected happened — police personnel came in and took us to a programme called Haritha Haram. Each of us was given a plant to sow in the soil. It sounds simple, but there was something about doing that on your very first day that stayed with me. We took photos, laughed a lot, and somewhere in that crowd I spotted a few familiar faces — school friends who had also ended up in the same college. That feeling of seeing someone you already know in a completely new place — relief doesn't even cover it.
After that, a faculty member took our entire batch on a college tour. We walked through 35 electronics labs. By the time we were done, I was genuinely tired. We sat down, opened our lunch boxes, and that was it day one done.
Day Two Reality Kicks In
The next day we were split according to our branches. We wrote down our timetables and classes began. We were almost late every single day before attendance was called some habits start early I suppose.
The Ragging Part Honestly Not That Bad
Seniors lined us up and asked each of us to give a self-introduction. Some had to sing songs, some got other tasks. It sounds intimidating written down, but in the moment it was more funny than scary. That's actually how I ended up talking to people I'd never have approached otherwise.
Then our sections were divided and a few lecturers asked us to introduce ourselves again. By the end of that second day, I had exchanged numbers and Instagram IDs with people who are now some of my closest friends.
From that point everything just fell into place.
That's my first college experience, as honest as I can tell it. If yours was anything like this — or completely different I'd love to hear it in the comments.
